To apply for a Radiation Oncology Residency position, the following application materials are required:

  • Radiation Oncology Application Form (for a non-match position)
  • Photo
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Dean’s Letter/MSPE
  • Transcript
  • 3 Recommendation Letters
  • USMLE/COMLEX Transcript
  • ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)

Eligibility Requirements

  • All residents must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree and must be graduates of schools approved by the LCME. Graduates of international schools must be approved for listing by the World Health Organization or equivalent accrediting bodies and possess a valid ECFMG certificate.
  • Only J-1 visas are accepted for medical residency positions at the University of Rochester.
  • Prior to entering our program, residents must have completed one year of postgraduate clinical training in one of the following: internal medicine, family practice, obstetrics/gynecology, surgery or surgical specialties, pediatrics, a categorical radiation oncology year, or a transitional year program.
  • The PGY-1 year must include at least 9 months of direct patient care in medical and/or surgical specialties other than radiation oncology.

 

International Medical Graduates:

International candidates and international medical graduates may apply for admission to our Residency Program, with these additional submission requirements:

  • Prior clinical experience in radiation oncology in the United States is not required for international students to apply.  However, all applicants must have completed an internship year prior to entering our Residency Program.
  • We sponsor only J-1 visas.  We also recognize ‘green cards’.
  • You must have passed Parts I and II of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
  • You must be eligible to be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
