Information for International Medical GraduatesPrior clinical experience in the United States is not required for international students to apply. It is the responsibility of the individual to secure the proper visa. The only acceptable visa status is an ECFMG sponsored J-1 visa. University of Rochester policy does not permit H-1 or H-1b visas. Nor does it provide sponsorship. All IMGs must hold a current and valid ECFMG certificate in order for their application to be considered complete. A Clinical Skills Assessment also must be current and valid. International applicants must have taken and passed both Steps I and II of the USMLE, and their English qualifying examination must be current and valid. If you have any questions regarding visas, please contact the Graduate Medical Education Office at (585) 275-4607. For information regarding ECFMG certification, visit the ECFMG website at www.ecfmg.org. |
