The students at U of R are some of the friendliest I’ve come across. In addition to the collegial atmosphere, the faculty are extremely knowledgeable and accessible; as long as you are willing to learn, there is never a shortage of mentors/teachers. The students are respected as individual thinkers.
Advising for MD/PhD students serves students during each phase of their training and takes advantage of the open and accessible advisors, administrators and faculty at the University of Rochester. This provides a flexible approach tailored to each student. Key components include:
- Annual Individual Meetings to review progress with the Program Director, Dr. O’Banion.
- Regular meetings with Dr. David Lambert, who serves as Advisory Dean for all MD/PhD students and who works with Dr. O’Banion to facilitate transitions to clinical work.
- A thesis mentor and committee to oversee thesis research.
- Specific meetings scheduled with groups of students entering particular phases of training (e.g. orientation to program, selection of thesis mentors, transition to graduate and clinical training).
