Biography
 

Kanakadurga Rao Poduri, M.D. is an associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.  She graduated from Karnatak Medical College, Hubli, India.  Dr. Poduri did residency training in PM&R at Strong Memorial Hospital.  She is Board Certified in PM&R, Pain and subspecialty of Spinal Cord Injury Medicine.  She is the Medical Director of PM&R services at Strong Memorial Hospital. Her research interests are outcome studies in stroke and spinal cord injury, amputations and hypertension.  Dr. Poduri was included in Top Doctors USA, 2003.  She became the Medical Director of Rochester Rehabilitation Center in 1986 and Director of the Prosthetic Clinic at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1989.  She is a diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and American Academy of Pain Management.  In addition to her medical practice, she teaches students (first, second and third year) in the medical school.  Dr. Poduri has been the Quality Assurance Coordinator since 1986 and is the Director of Quality Counsel for the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  She was a member of the Quality Assurance Committee at the AAPM&R from 1989 to 1992.  She has presented several papers at the Annual meetings of the AAPM&R, National Stroke Association, and the American Geriatric Society.  Her presentation on shoulder pain in stroke patients took her to Germany in 1993.  Her research work presentations and publications are in the areas of stroke, brain injury, spinal cord, amputations, hypertension and DVT.  She served as a vice president and then as a president until 1996 for the Charaka society, an association of Indian physicians of Greater Rochester.  Served as Vice Chair of Medical Staff Council at Strong Memorial Hospital from 2001-2003. She is an Honorary consultant for Spinal Cord Injury at Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital and Research Center in Hyderabad, Inda
