Residents are strongly encouraged, but not required to participate in a research project during their training. The resident works closely with a faculty member in selecting, designing, and completing a research project. The faculty have a wide range of research interests including areas such as: outcome following rehabilitation for TBI and stroke; spasticity management; pharmacologic interventions to promote recovery or enhance behavioral and cognitive functioning; motor control in normal and brain injured subjects; rehabilitation following mild brain injury; effects of cognitive rehabilitation.

Many interesting patients with unusual presentations or management issues are seen on the inpatient unit, or as outpatients, and may be written up and published as a case report and literature review. Faculty are often involved in writing book chapters or reviews, and may invite interested residents to participate as co-authors. This represents an excellent opportunity for the resident to gain experience in literature review, develop organizational skills, and to assess and enhance their writing skills. (Not to mention the knowledge gained, and the resulting publication.)

Residents who are presenting research or speaking at a national meeting are generally given some financial support to defray the cost of attending the meeting.

A list of recent resident publications and presentations is included in this website. The name of the resident appears in bold.
