Stepping Out: Community-Oriented News in Psychiatry

Buddhism:  Mind and Matter, an Inquiry into Nature and Consciousness symposium by the Rochester Zen Center.  Speakers are B. Alan Wallace, President, Santa Barbara Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of Consciousness; Ursula Goodenough, Professor of Biology, Washington University in St. Louis; James Austin, Clinical Professor of Neurology, University of Missouri Health Sciences Center; Adam Frank, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, University of Rochester; and Bodhin Kjolhede Roshi, Abbot, Rochester Zen Center from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at the Memorial Art Gallery Auditorium at 500 University Avenue on April 26.  Tickets are $60 and available online at www.rzc.org or contact the Rochester Zen Center at 473-9180.

Health Disparities:  How Will Rochester Bridge the Racial Divide – to be held on May from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM at the Holiday Inn Airport, 911 Brooks Avenue.  Join us for a discussion of the ways in which health disparities are manifested in our community and the life course basis for many of those disparities.  We will explore the cultural factors that influence both patient and provider behavior and how these factors contribute to disparities in health status and health care experiences.  There is no charge for attending this conference and there is plenty of free parking.  However, space is limited and registration is required.  Continental breakfast and lunch provided.  Please respond to jisaacs@pnmc.hsr.org or phone 546-4930 ext. 215.
