Forensic Psychiatry fellowship Program
Welcome From the Director - J. Richard Ciccone, M.D.
The Charles E. Steinberg Fellowship in Psychiatry and the Law began in 1986 and was one of the original eight forensic psychiatry fellowships in the country accredited by the Accreditation Council of Forensic Psychiatry Fellowships. It was one of the initial eleven forensic psychiatry fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 1997. The fellowship (residency) program in forensic psychiatry is a one-year, post-residency training program for psychiatrists planning careers in forensic psychiatry, and leads to Added Qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. This fellowship is open all who have completed an ACGME accredited general psychiatry residency program.
Mission
To provide an educational experience which will give fellows the opportunity to gain the psychiatric subspecialty knowledge and skills necessary to ethically apply scientific and clinical expertise to: (1) legal issues involving criminal, civil, correctional, or legislative matters; (2) the legal regulation of psychiatry; and (3) provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment to those in correctional or forensic settings.
To provide fellows with the opportunity to develop their interests, talents, and knowledge as they apply to the subspecialty of forensic psychiatry.
