A major demographic shift is at hand. The relative proportion of Blacks and Latinos in the United States will increase in coming decades. As the nation becomes more ethnically diverse, new paradigms are needed to decrease the mental health burden ascribed to mood disorders. In order to prevent and treat mood disorders in these growing populations, our knowledge base must be enhanced and the number of Black and Latino clinical scientists must grow.
