International Medicine Overview

International Medicine in the Office of Student Enrichment Programs provides opportunities for students and faculty to broaden their understanding of issues in Third World health care at home and abroad. Our program includes:

  • International Health Awards to many sites including Mali, Antigua-Barbuda,Israel, and Haiti.
  • The five-year USAID Linkages Project on child immunization with the Malian National Medical School in Bamako, Mali (West Africa) and the Columbia School of Public Health.
  • The two-year USAID partnership and training project between medical schools in the U.S. and Russia and Ukraine to upgrade medical school training and introduce standardized testing.
  • Advising for students, staff and faculty interested in international health rotations through our office in the Offices for Medical Education.
  • Access to international health resources in the Student Enrichment Programs Resource Library.
  • Outreach to Rochester's Sister Cities.
  • Involvement in IHMEC, the International Health Medical Education Consortium.
  • Formal institutional agreements with 3 medical schools: University of Würzburg, Germany; National Taiwan University; and Jagiellonian University, Poland.
  • Support of medical student activities and committees, such as the Foreign Medical Service Committee and APAMSA.
