Medical Informatics, a division of the Offices of the Dean, provides opportunities for students to explore a variety of aspects of informatics research. The central focus of the Division's activities is in applied informatics. This is the application of new technology or the unique application of existing technology to provide viable improvements in clinical practice. The evolution of new software technology and on the creation of structures suitable for use in both clinical practice and as a clinical repository for medical research. Additional work focuses on the development of software for web-based faculty databases, pager based notification of critical laboratory results, and medical image database systems. Other topics, which may be explored, include library-based applications and outcome evaluations.

The available offerings include:

  1. An 8-week elective
  2. Year-out fellowships
  3. In-Depth Experience (IDE)
