Ambassadors at the Strong Memorial Hospital information deskThe University of Rochester Medical Center’s Ambassador Program was established in 1992 by Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital to accommodate the growing needs for wayfinding and other resources for patients, families, visitors, and URMC staff.

Ambassadors are Medical Center staff who work closely with volunteers, parking valet staff, and other Medical Center departments to ensure that our patients and family members have a pleasant experience.

Ambassadors are located in multiple areas of the Medical Center, including the Main Information Desk in the lobby of Strong Memorial Hospital, Behavioral Health, Eastman Dental, Emergency Department, Patient Discharge, and Wilmot Cancer Center.

Ambassadors provide the following services:

  • Meet and greet patients, families, visitors, and staff
  • Wheelchair assistance for patients, families, and visitors
  • Courtesy cart transportation for patients, families, and visitors
  • Courtesy cart transportation for patients, families, and visitors
  • Wayfinding instructions for the inpatient and outpatient services within the Medical Center and offsite locations
  • Contact taxis and medical cab transportation, as needed
  • Free patient shuttle to the Wilmot Cancer CenterSupport at the Information desk—24 hours per day, 365 days per year
  • Patient location information and appointment verification
  • Support valet parking services at the Elmwood Avenue entrance Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Supervision of the patient discharge area including patient mail, patient email, flowers, and gift baskets
  • Materials on lodging, local restaurants, shopping, and attractions to out of town visitors.

The Ambassador Program is a customer service oriented program whose goal is to provide our patients and families with an exceptional experience at URMC, Strong Memorial Hospital. The Ambassadors are well trained in way finding throughout the hospital and local area.
