Causes and Solutions
Colorectal disorders – conditions affecting the small intestine, colon, rectum or anus – shouldn’t be ignored. In many cases, an injury to the bowel or anus won’t become apparent for years. So it’s important to take action as soon as a colorectal problem
is discovered.
Problems can develop due to various injuries or trauma to the sphincter muscles; scarring from disease or previous surgeries; diseases affecting the nerves; rectal prolapse; or old age. But the Colorectal Physiology Center addresses them all – utilizing the widest range of surgical and non-surgical procedures.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Our world-class diagnostic procedures include:
- 3-D ultrasound to produce highly detailed images
- anal manometry to measure sphincter pressure
- colonoscopy to provide visual information
- defecography to evaluate rectal performance
Our non-surgical treatments include:
- common-sense dietary adjustments
- medical agents (such as Immodium®)
- non-invasive biofeedback therapy
- expert, compassionate counseling
Our fellowship-trained colorectal specialists successfully perform the most advanced, effective surgeries to ensure the best possible outcome for patients. Procedures include sphincterplasty, sacral nerve stimulation and prolapse surgery.
