Three-Dimensional Body Representation Used as an Index for Dermatological Data

Technology ID:

6-1119

Applications:

The present invention is an information structure used to organize medical data more precisely. With advancements in computer and sensor technology, accurate three dimensional representations of the human body are created. However, there is almost a complete absence of an accurate system of indexing/cataloging of dermatological conditions. The present invention uses the spatial coordinate system of the 3-D representation as a frame of reference for medical data. Uniquely linking a lesion to a system mesh makes information retrieval more precise.

Advantages:

The present invention organizes medical data so that it is easily accessible for observation or comparison. Currently, there are dermatological conditions that present large volumes of recordable data such as: lesion monitoring, treatment efficacy, burn assessments, forensic identification, disease progression and several other conditions. Initial observations and changes over time for these conditions require the need for an organized recording system. The present invention has the ability to handle large volumes of data in an accurate, precise, and organized fashion. Current clinical body maps are formed from macro images of lesions taken with a slide film. An average human body surface would require some 200 images to provide complete coverage. With the present invention, the data is organized automatically, eliminating the task of organizing hundreds of images. In addition, the coordinate system will serve as a clear frame of reference for the user regarding areas of interest as well as easily accommodating integration into an electronic health records system.
