Androgen Receptor's Involvement in the Development of Type II Diabetes
Technology ID:
6-1270
Applications:
Androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid hormone superfamily of nuclear receptors. Androgen receptor has been implicated in many cancers in an androgen-dependent way. This invention discloses that androgen receptor is also involved in the development of Type II Diabetes and coronary heart disease (CHD). Furthermore, while anti-androgens, such has hydroxyflutamide, have been used to treat AR-dependent cancers for many years, theses same treatments can increase the factors that contribute to Type II Diabetes and CHD.
Advantages:
The molecules of this invention and their interactions with AR and the information regarding influence of AR on Type II Diabetes and CHD provide for methods of identifying compositions which modulate or mimic this activity, as well as methods of modulating AR activity itself, as well as treatments and modulation of Type II Diabetes and CHD and effects of these diseases.
