Licensing Process
Our licensing process is designed to be fair and easy to navigate. It is our intention to foster a positive and long-term working relationship with every one of our commercial partners. However, we also need to look out for the interests of our inventors, as well as those of the University of Rochester. Sometimes it is difficult balancing the interests of everyone involved in the licensing process, but we will make every effort to arrive at a successful outcome for everyone concerned.
Once you have identified a technology of interest, we will provide you with information to assist you in your evaluation process. Oftentimes, this will require the execution of a Confidential Disclosure Agreement to protect the intellectual property of one, or both, parties.
At this point, if you are interested in pursuing the matter further, we might enter into licensing negotiations. Alternately, we could option the technology to you for a proscribed period while you perform further analysis, or await additional research. An option usually requires some manner of payment and a reimbursement of patent expenses.
In either case, you will find that our agreements and conditions are similar to practices followed at most universities.
Although the sample agreements listed on this page are simple and standardized, we are willing to work with you to create documents that suit your needs and serve to advance our relationship.
