SmartStart UNYTECH Venture Forum
This is New York State's premier early-stage venture forum where the best companies from across the state present to the investment firms from New England to the Mid-Atlantic regions. Presented annually in the spring, companies are identified and vetted for participation in this event, and the resultant program features the state's best venture capital investment deal flow exposure across all market segments and technologies. Additionally, university spin-off companies are also presented as the up-and-coming pipeline of promising companies representing tomorrow's investment opportunities.
SmartStart UNYTECH is the premier Upstate NY venture forum where VC firms look to see the best that the state has to offer for deal flow. Now in its 13th year, SmartStart UNYTECH has to date highlighted 285 high-quality companies from throughout the state and beyond to the VC community, and their success speaks the quality of deal flow we select. Of these companies, 64 have raised more than $500 M in equity financing, including more than $72 M directly attributable to their participation in the forum. In 2007, SmartStart was merged with UNYTECH, the Upstate University forum highlighting early-stage university spin-outs. Additionally, this forum is marketed and recognized by many East Coast and Mid-Atlantic venture funds as the place to get Upstate NY technology deal flow. We recognize each year some standout presentations with Best Business Presentation, Most Promising Technology and Most Likely to be Funded awards.

The Office of Technology Transfer, in cooperation with the Center for Entrepreneurship proudly present F.I.R.E. in June:
"Find Funding in Your Freezer and Move Science Forward:
The Investigator's Annexe"
Both new funding and new research tools can be important to new discoveries in life science. Currently research materials may be shared under a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), but the MTA process can exact a toll on academic labs and technology transfer offices. KeraFAST has shown that a new source of academic research funding can be found in the many novel and unique research materials investigators have in their laboratory freezers, such as antibodies, cell lines, probes, viruses, plasmids, and so on.
Our presenter this month is Robert Bondaryk, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of KeraFAST, Inc. KeraFAST hosts the Investigator's Annexe -- a large and unique collection of life science research tools from the laboratories of investigators in prominent research institutions from around the world.
A light lunch will be served following the presentation. Please contact David Englert, or call 585.276.6615 for more information or to register for this event.
Although the F.I.R.E. Series continues to be free and open to the public, a small fee for parking may apply (usually between $5 and $6). Registration would be appreciated by noon Monday,10 June 2013.
