Gynecologic Pathology

The Gynecology Pathology section provides surgical pathology services related to the female genital tract. Our staff has expertise in the diagnostic surgical pathology of the entire spectrum of neoplastic and non neoplastic diseases. Employing histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology, the section provides consultative diagnostic services for biopsies and surgically removed specimens.

The staff works closely with UR Medicine gynecologists and gynecologic oncologists throughout well as regional referring hospitals and pathologists. In addition to their clinical diagnostic activities, our staff is also heavily involved in resident, fellow and medical student teaching and research.

Primary research interests include Human Papilloma Virus infection and its role in carcinogenesis in the cervix and vulva. Particular emphasis is placed on processes to enhance early diagnosis and improve the accuracy and precision of currently available diagnostic techniques.
