The Tang Lab is studying breast cancer and the use of immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis to identify patterns that predict a high risk for bone metastasis.
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women, and bone metastasis is the most common systematic failure in breast cancer patients. It indicates the disease has entered an incurable stage and impacts patients' quality of life significantly. We are analyzing cases of breast carcinoma with bone metastasis, lymph node metastasis, visceral organ metastasis, or without any type of metastasis; comparing their differential expression patterns of key molecules; and seeking to identify a pattern or patterns that predict high risk for bone metastasis by routine immunohistochemical (IHC) analysis.
Earlier and continuing studies have focused on identifying molecular markers that predict a subgroup of DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) with high risk of progression to IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma).
