INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the American Association of Poison Control Center’s electronic continuing education program for Specialists in Poison Information.  This fourteen-day module will cover additional bites and stings from a variety of venomous animals.  A brief review on animal bites and rabies is also included.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this electronic continuing education module, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify a number of venomous animals capable of producing a bite or envenomation.

2. Recognize the signs and symptoms associated with a bite or sting from a venomous animal.

3. Describe the signs and symptoms associated with a bite or sting from a venomous animal.

4. Identify risk factors and treatment guidelines relating to animal bites and concerns about rabies.
