He is on the editorial board of Clinical Immunology and is an ad hoc reviewer for many journals including the Journal of Clinical Investigation, American J. of Pathology, PNAS, Trends in Immunology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Journal of Immunology. Dr. Phipps is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, The American Physiological Society, The American Association of Immunologists, The American Society of Clinical Pathology, and the American Thoracic Society. He has served on numerous review committees for the NIH and other government agencies.
Dr. Phipps was awarded three patents; immunologic conjugates of gram-negative bacterial autoinducer molecules, antibodies raised against immunogenic conjugates of gram-negative bacterial autoinducer molecules, and method for detecting a gram-negative bacterial autoinducer molecule. Dr. Phipps has received numerous awards and honors including the Arthur Kornberg Research Award, Burroughs-Wellcome Foundation Faculty Scholar, and the University of Rochester Pre and Postdoctoral Student Mentoring Award.
Dr. Phipps has dedicated his career to advancing biomedical research and training pre and postdoctoral students. His research studying prostaglandins, cytokines, and fibroblasts have contributed to a better understanding of B cell lymphoma, Graves Disease, and inflammatory processes.
