Dr. Veenema is an expert in the treatment of sports related emergencies. He sees patients of all ages to provide non-operative care to injured athletes. He is also the team physician for Rochester Institute of Technology, where he provides training room and game coverage for the Department of Athletics. While attending Cornell University, he played Division I baseball. Dr. Veenema was subsequently a tenth round draft choice of the Chicago Cubs and played several years of professional baseball before enrolling in medical school.

Dr. Veenema earned his medical degree at Columbia University and completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at URMC. He has authored many medical journal articles on diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries. Dr. Veenema is board-certified in both Sports Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Orthopedics at URMC where he is the Program Director of the Fellowship in Emergency Sports Medicine.
