My research interests over the past decade have tended to be fairly broad. A primary focus would be perinatal epidemiology, using birth certificate databases to evaluate practice variation and outcomes associated with labor induction and cesarean section, analyzing racial differences in utilization of epidural obstetric anesthesia, and in obstetrical outcomes associated with adolescent obesity. There have been a variety of other projects not involving the birth certificate database, including the effect of penicillin on vaginal group B strep colony counts, sonographic fetal weight prediction in obese women, meta-analyses on the protein:creatinine ratio to predict significant proteinuria and on adverse neonatal effects associated with antenatal use of indomethacin, and several urogynecology and gynecologic oncology studies in which I did the statistical analyses.
