Howard Silberstein, MD
Dr. Silberstein has been a member of the URMC Faculty since 1999 and is the Staff Neurosurgeon at Golisano Children's Hospital at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. He received his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He interned in General Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Rutgers Medical School at Camden New Jersey Campus. He completed his Neurosurgery training at the University of Connecticut/Hartford Hospital training program. This included a 6-month clinical research fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Silberstein completed a fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. He has his medical licensure in New York State and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons as well as the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has professional hospital and administrative appointments at Rochester General Hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital and Unity Hospital all located in Rochester, NY. He has membership in the American Medical Association, New York State Medical Society, Monroe County Medical Society, American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He has been involved in Neurosurgical Resident training from 2000 until the present.
Dr. Silberstein operated on 25 children with central nervous system tumors over the past year. He has extensive experience in resection of tumors located in eloquent regions of the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Silberstein utilizes state of the art technologies: operating microscope, endoscopy and neuronavigation in the surgical treatment of children with brain tumors.
