Dr. Kaczorowski does research centered around the effectiveness of and interventions undertaken through the Pediatric Links with the Community and Child Advocacy Resident Education Program (PLC/CARE). The mission of the PLC/CARE program is:

*To create a residency training program that inspires and empowers future pediatricians to become leaders in improving the health of children in their communities.

*To develop a model of community pediatrics in which pediatricians collaborate with community-based organizations, work to assure the health of all children in the community, and advocate for their community to be more child-responsive and child-oriented.

More information about the PLC/CARE program can be found at our website: http://www.plccare.org

The two chief areas in which we conduct research are:

1) Evaluation of the effects of the PLC/CARE program on residents, the Department of Pediatrics, and the Rochester community.

2) Research on the effectiveness of programs and projects undertaken by residents and faculty of the PLC/CARE program on health for vulnerable children and families in our community.

Examples of some of the research projects we are currently working on include:

*Change over time in resident knowledge, attitudes, comfort, intentions, and behaviors concerning work in community settings (multiple studies here).

*Survey comparison of residents' involvement in community settings: a comparison of Department of Pediatrics graduates pre-PLC (before 1996) and post-PLC (after 1996).

*Pediatric Academic Faculty Survey regarding PLC/CARE; baseline and change over time in faculty view of program effect(s).

*Voter registration and surveys regarding important political issues for inner city families with children.

*Immunization status and access to health care for rural migrant families.
