Dr. Rand's research relates to improving adolescent preventive services and adolescent immunization delivery. She has described adolescent visit patterns and receipt of preventive services on a national level, and determined how these rates will affect delivery of adolescent immunizations, particularly delivery of human papillomavirus vaccine. She has presented her findings to the National Vaccine Advisory Committee, which in turn advises the Director of the National Vaccine Program.

Dr. Rand is currently involved in three research projects, all funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first assesses parent and adolescent perceptions of new adolescent vaccinations. A second study examines the feasibility of universal childhood influenza vaccination, particularly focusing on the additional burden of visits that will be required for all children to be vaccinated. A third study examines the feasibility of delivering adolescent vaccines in teen clinics from the perspective of teen clinic directors.
