Dr. Zarcone's research focuses on children with autism specifically in the area of functional assessment, severe behavior disorders, and educational practices. She is a member of a multi-center research team conducting clinical trials comparing medication and parent management training in the treatment of problem behavior in children with autism. In addition, she conducts research on the chromosome 15 genetic disorder Prader-Willi syndrome. Funding from NIH and from the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of America is on evaluating the behavioral differences between genetic subtypes with a focus on compulsive behavior, executive function, and excessive appetite. Dr. Zarcone is also part of a research team evaluating executive function deficits in adolescents with anorexia nervosa.
