The University of Rochester Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Lael Elizabeth Forbes, M.D., F.A.C.S as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. She will be joining Highland Hospital's Department of Surgery and the Bariatric Surgery Center.
Dr. Forbes specializes in the minimally invasive approach to all aspects of gastrointestinal surgery, breast surgery and weight loss surgery. After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, Dr. Forbes went on to earn her medical degree at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. She then completed an internship and residency in general surgery in the Department of Surgery at St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center, also in New York City.
Dr. Forbes served as a fellow in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the European Institute of Telesurgery/IRCAD, Universite Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France. In addition, she completed a mini-fellowship in minimally invasive bariatric surgery at Montefiore Institute for MIS, Bronx, New York.
Prior to joining URMC and Highland Hospital, Dr. Forbes held an academic position as an Assistant Professor of general, advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, Department of Surgery, Division of Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery, SUNY -University at Buffalo. Additionally, Dr. Forbes was an assistant director at the Kaleida Health Comprehensive Weight Loss Center and a co-founder of the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) certified National Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence at Buffalo General Hospital.
Dr. Forbes is ACS Board Certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Forbes is a member of professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and American Society of Breast Surgeons.
