The breast biopsy workshop will include Ultrasound Guided Biopsy in the Villa Room and MR Guided Biopsy in the Zapata Room. Both areas are located adjacent to the Technical Exhibit Area.

The Ultrasound Guided Biopsy Workshop will be lead by Jennifer Harvey, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Virginia where she is Head, Division of Breast Imaging and Co-Director of the University of Virginia’s Breast Team. Dr. Harvey will start the workshop with a short didactic presentation outlining the procedure. The “hands-on” will include breast core needle biopsy, needle localization and cyst aspiration. The workshop will also include 14 gauge throw needle biopsy and vacuum assisted biopsy. These procedures will be performed on turkey breast phantoms. Application specialists from the participating companies will be present to assist in the procedures and provide technical advice.

The MR Guided Biopsy portion of the workshop will be lead by Avice M. O'Connell, MD, MRCPI, who is Associate Professor of Imaging Sciences and Director of Women's Imaging at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. O’Connell will be assisted by Kristina Siddall, MD. The MR portion of the workshop will consist of a didactic presentation outlining the procedure. A step-by-step guide to the biopsy procedure will be presented with a list of start up supplies for those just starting to perform MR guided biopsies. Several different biopsy options will be described. The workshop will also introduce the vendors of commonly used devices that will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their products.

The Breast Biopsy Workshop will be held 5:45pm until 7:15pm as designated in the Villa and Zapata Rooms. Exhibitors will use their own equipment and certain supplies in accordance with guidelines prepared by the Workshop Leader. The Exhibitor will provide the application specialist to demonstrate on their own equipment. Participation is limited for the Breast Biopsy Workshop and registration is required.
