MR-guided Breast Biopsy

The MR-guided Breast Biopsy Workshop will be lead by Margarita Zuley, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology and Direct of Breast Imaging at Magee-Women's Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Philp F. Murphy, MD of the Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic and Steven F. Harms, MD, FACR, Clinical Professor of radiology at the University of Arkansas and a radiologist at the Breast Center of Northwest Arkansas.

The workshop will consist of a step-by-step guide to the biopsy procedure using the Aurora Breast Biopsy Simulator. Both core and vacuum assisted biopsy procedures will be demonstrated for both medial and lateral approaches. Application Specialists from the participating company will be present to assist in the procedures and provide technical advice.

Aurora Needle AspirationParticipants must sign up for this workshop at the Registratin Desk. Each workshop will be limited to five to ten participants and last approximately 50 minutes. The workshops will be held:

Monday, February 4, 2008
1:45pm-2:35pm Workshop Leader: Margarita Zuley, MD

Tuesday, February 5, 2008
1:30pm-2:20pm Workshop Leader: Steven F. Harms, MD, FACR

The following companies will be participating in the
MR-guided Breast Biopsy Workshop:

Aurora Imaging Technology, Inc. — Integrated AuroraBIOPSY™ - Eliminates Manual Calculations! Now, there’s no need to perform manual calculations and count grid squares to determine needle placement.  The new AuroraBIOPSY™ is the first and only completely computer automated and fully integrated MRI-guided biopsy software technology available on the market.  Just click on the lesion, click on the marker and the integrated software system provides coordinates for precise needle placement – ready for the biopsy procedure, both medial and lateral approaches.  With a patient sled providing the largest access area to the breast, the AuroraBIOPSY technology provides the breast specialist with a fast and accurate interventional solution.  Additionally, AuroraBIOPSY allows the specialist to target multiple lesions in the same breast or both breasts in a single procedure. Able to accommodate needle localizations, core biopsy and vacuum-assisted biopsy devices, AuroraBIOPSY also provides proprietary breast stabilization paddles allowing for a truly custom fit per patient.  Exclusive rotating needle guides allow the physician to avoid possible grid obstructions as well as scars and moles without changing the targeted position.

Hologic, Inc. — This MRI workshop will include a hands-on demonstration of the ATEC Breast Biopsy and Excision System. Participants will have the opportunity to operate the ATEC in a simulated biopsy using a phantom breast. Designed to meet all your clinical requirements, the ATEC Breast Biopsy and Excision System is your choice for speed, accuracy, safety, and patient comfort. The ATEC has been used in more than 28,000 MRI-guided breast biopsies to date in more than 600 facilities worldwide.  ATEC provides consistently larger more complete specimens for more confidence in every procedure.

Invivo — Invivo provides all the tools necessary for life-saving early diagnosis of breast disease. Our Total Solution Approach to Breast MR includes cutting edge dedicated breast array coils, MR guided interventional planning tools and a full line of MR compatible instruments for MR guided interventional procedures. The Invivo 7 Channel Biopsy Breast Array coil uses multiple receiving elements to surround breast tissue for exceptional high resolution imaging of the breast and axillary tissue. Large, open architecture provides easy, comfortable patient positioning and medial and lateral interventional access. Fully integrated biopsy and immobilization kit is compatible with both vacuum assist and true-cut biopsy instruments. Invivo’s 4 Channel Open breast coil offers a phased array design that surrounds breast tissue, providing exceptional imaging for the breast and axillary tissue. The open architecture allows access to lateral aspects of either breast for patient positioning, biopsy or needle localization.DynaCAD is a digital imaging workstation with an extensive set of computer-aided detection (CAD) tools for performing real-time image analysis and interventional procedure planning. DynaCAD provides radiologists with a comprehensive solution for significantly improved workflow and increased diagnostic confidence.

SenoRx, Inc. — SenoRx (Nasdaq: SENO) develops, manufactures and sells minimally invasive medical devices used by breast care specialists for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. SenoRx’s field sales organization serves over 1,000 breast diagnostic and treatment centers across the United States and Canada. SenoRx has 17 products that have already received FDA 510(k) clearance across the continuum of breast care, including the Contura™ Multi-Lumen Balloon for accelerated partial breast irradiation. The advanced technology EnCor® vacuum assisted breast biopsy device will be demonstrated in the MRI workshop. The specially designed EnCor MRI driver is compatible with the EnCor breast biopsy system and simplifies the overall MRI biopsy procedure. Disposable MRI biopsy probes are longer, ensuring easy placement either through the grid or through pillar/post systems. For more precise lesion localization the EnCor MRI block offers thirteen positioning holes compared to only nine for competitive products. The light, ergonomic driver using the ultra-sharp Tri-Concave Trocar tip assures easy entry for biopsy collection. The closed system maximizes speed and cleanliness. The recently introduced VisiLoc™ obturator is visible in both the axial and sagittal planes and verifies the targeted position to confirm accuracy.
