From Flu to Smallpox, URMC Clinical Trials Lead the Way to Vaccines

The Vaccine Research Unit at the University of Rochester Medical Center began conducting vaccine trials in the 1970s. Their work has led to the approval of new flu vaccines and the first and only vaccine to prevent cancer and continues today with studies of bird flu and norovirus.

William Bonnez, M.D., Richard Reichman, M.D., and Robert C. Rose, Ph.D. are featured in a Spanish book called 40 + 1 Innovators Who Have Changed the World of the 21st Century for their pioneering work on the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
