Medical Center to Lead State-Funded Breastfeeding Initiative

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is embarking on a five-year initiative to encourage more mothers in high need areas of Monroe County to breastfeed exclusively for the recommended six months. The project, supported by a $970,000 grant from the New York State Department of Health, aims to normalize breastfeeding by protecting the practice in community settings and businesses and helping health care providers support and educate families.

URMC Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

The University of Rochester Medical Center honors and celebrates World Breastfeeding Week July 31st through August 4th. This year's theme focuses on "sustaining breastfeeding together," about ecology, economy, and equity. The week-long celebration highlights and promotes the efforts of women worldwide and those who support them to sustain breastfeeding in our communities.

URMC opens new lactation room

The University of Rochester Medical Center announced the grand opening of a new lactation room on Tuesday. The ribbon cutting ceremony was dedicated to world-renowned pioneer in breastfeeding Dr. Ruth Lawrence. The new location at UR Medicine's Women's Health Practice gives new moms and their babies access to a private, quiet place for breastfeeding.
