Blood and Marrow Transplantation
Providing exceptional care to patients and their families during their transplant procedure is the primary goal of the BMT program at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. Our BMT physicians are hematologists/oncologists who are experts in the management of cancer, blood disorders, and transplantation. The BMT team performs about 120 blood and marrow transplants for adults and children each year, making us the largest center in Western New York.
James P. Wilmot Cancer Center's Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) for allogeneic and autologous marrow and peripheral blood progenitor cell transplantation, including collection and laboratory processing.
Strong Memorial Hospital was accredited by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) as a donor Transplant Center in 1992. Our hospital houses an NMDP-approved Apheresis Center. The local Red Cross is the NMDP-approved Donor Center affiliated with our program.
We are a participating research center with the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR), which means we provide them with very detailed data on our transplants. Our physicians are affiliated with the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT).
