Apple-Date Crisp

This dessert is a quick and delicious fruit-based. Dates provide natural sweetness and dietary fiber. Serve warm with honey yogurt or cranberry chutney for a hearty and comforting end to your meal.

Ingredients:

Topping:

  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp canola oil
  • 1/3 cup chopped nuts

Filling:

  • 4 cups apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (about 4 medium sized apples)
  • 1/3 cup chopped dates
  • 2 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Spray 8” or 9” square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, combine topping ingredients; mix well with hands or fork until crumbly. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with dates, honey, pumpkin pie spice and lemon juice.
  4. Pour apple mixture into the prepared baking dish and crumble the topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, or until top is lightly brown and fruit is fork-tender.
  6. Serve warm with a dollop of honey yogurt (recipe below) or cranberry chutney.


Whipped honey yogurt: Whisk 1 cup of 2% plain Greek yogurt with 1 tsp of honey and 1/8 tsp of vanilla extract. Use as a topping for your favorite desserts.
