Our Team Florine Lofton-Shaw Current Appointment Ms. Lofton-Shaw is on the support staff team for NDBP clinical services/Kirch Center. She is the intake coordinator for the OPWDD Monroe County Crisis Intervention Team. Overview Ms. Lofton-Shaw has worked for the University of Rochester since 2000 and joined the NDBP team in 2007. Roles and Responsibilities Ms. Lofton-Shaw spends a lot of time on the phone with Kirch families. She answers family questions, makes appointments, and communicates with the rest of the team. She also manages much of the paperwork families send in, assuring it gets scanned into the electronic chart and communicated to the clinical team. In her role as intake coordinator for the Crisis Intervention Team, she primarily talks with families by phone. She gathers information about behavioral and other concerns. She gathers information about services and supports the family is currently using. She then coordinates evaluation with the behavior specialists and the rest of the team. She communicates with families during their involvement in the program. Patient Care Profile Ms. Lofton-Shaw works to be patient and reassuring to families on the phone. She listens carefully and tries to reassure them. She recognizes that many families calling have serious concerns about their child’s development or behaviors. Families who call are often anxious and or afraid at what may be going on with their child. She works hard to walk families through the intake process without adding to their stress, and helps reassure them about the team’s ability to help them and their child.
