Construction Corner: Kids Give Framing a Finishing Touch

As final steel beams were being prepared for the new Golisano Children's Hospital, a couple dozen pediatric patients put the finishing touches on a beam at the edge of the construction site.

We couldn't let the structure of the hospital be completed before we let some of our patients leave their mark on it. So, on Oct. 1, patients from the hospital and the outpatient clinics signed their names and left their colorful handprints on a beam.

The new $145-million tower, located on Crittenden Boulevard and attached to the medical center and Strong Memorial Hospital, will be eight floors and approximately 245,000 square feet of space dedicated to children and their families. It is expected to open in 2015.

As the construction continues through the winter, pipes, ductwork, and interior framing will start to fill in the steel and concrete structure. To keep up to date on construction progress, “like” the hospital's Facebook page or follow the campaign blog.
