Radiothon’s Success Promises More Miracles

JP and JuliePhones were ringing off the hook at this year’s Drive for Miracles Radiothon.Patient families, medical professionals and volunteers from the community, and local businesses, showed their dedication to Golisano Children’s Hospital at University of Rochester Medical Center by helping raise $224,000, a record-breaking total.

100.5 The Drive, WHAM 1180, and 13WHAM-TV teamed up for the two-day event, Feb. 14 and 15, to talk with grateful families and share stories of hope and healing with the community. The Drive’s J.P., Julie, and Mayor Pete Kennedy joined WHAM’s Chet Walker, Bob Lonsberry and Joe Lomonaco in talking with thankful parents, former Miracle Kids, and pediatric nurses and doctors who have each felt the impact of donations first hand. Jennifer Johnson of 13WHAM-TV did a special live broadcast on Valentine’s Day, revealing the positive and heartfelt energy of the event. Volunteers

The radio emcees rallied through a total of 28 hours of on-air time, sharing hospital statistics, the need for advancing medical equipment, and hopes for the future children’s hospital.

The event would not have been such an immense success without support from the Rochester community. Volunteers from: Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Inc., RE/MAX Plus, the Amerks, Tops Friendly Markets, Walmart, Lyell Federal Credit Union, and NOCO Energy Corporation – just to name a few – took calls from donors for a number of hours throughout each day. The Bishop-Kearney women’s basketball team also filled up the phone bank to show their support for fellow teammate and cardiac patient, Emmanuella Edoka.

Wisteria flowersIn addition to taking calls, a number of organizations also sponsored Radiothon, often matching amounts called-in by donors (see below). Such enthusiasm and commitment to helping our patients really helped hit the event out of the park.

To make the two days even more special, Wisteria Flowers and Gifts, a long-time Golisano Children’s Hospital partner, donated colorful floral arrangements that were delivered right to patients’ bedsides as donors made monthly miracle maker pledges.

Golisano Children’s Hospital would like to sincerely thank Clear Channel radio for their tremendous commitment to this year’s Radiothon, as well as the families who shared their stories and volunteers who donated their time to make the 2013 Drive for Miracles Radiothon an unprecedented success. Your dedication and hard work continues to make miracles possible.
