Miracle Weekend Celebrates History and New Beginnings

Anticipation for Miracle Weekend this year is incredibly high. With the Stroll for Strong Kids celebrating the new Golisano Children’s Hospital beginning to rise on campus and a celebration of three decades of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital’s Telethon on New10NBC, this special weekend is sure to make history.

Stroll Builds Hospital Support

Stroll TeamRegistration and fundraising for Stroll for Strong Kids and 5K is starting to build, just like the landscape of the future Golisano Children’s Hospital. The changing scenery around the Wilmot Cancer Center and the south side of Strong Memorial Hospital’s lobby in the last few months certainly makes the construction of the children’s hospital all the more real. Watching large machines move mounds of dirt and demolish the sidewalk, let alone tear down the outer wall of the south entrance of the main lobby, gets everyone excited for what the future holds for our patients – something Stroll participants play a large role in.

The 17th annual event, set for Saturday, June 1, at Genesee Valley Park, is always fun for the whole family. On-site registration for the 5K will begin at 7:45 a.m. and close at 8:15 a.m., with an 8:30 a.m. race start. Walkers can register starting at 8 a.m. with a walk time of 10:30 a.m. Entertainment, including bounce houses, carnival games, photo booths, dunk tanks, and much more, will continue until 1 p.m.

Individuals recruit family members and friends, months in advance, to create teams in support of patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital. CMN Hospitals Telethon Celebrates 30 years

TelethonThis year’s Telethon, hosted by News10NBC, marks the 30th anniversary of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals event. For the last three decades, Miracle Kids and their families have shared their inspiring stories with the News10NBC team and its viewers. This year’s event, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, June 2, will feature exclusive interviews with the 2013 Miracle Kids and their families.

The Miracle Weekend broadcast will also include interviews with pediatric health care providers and local children’s hospital supporters, focusing on the care our patients receive and hopes for the future children’s hospital.

Volunteers from the Rochester community, as well as Golisano Children’s Hospital faculty, will be taking pledges made by calling (585) 241-KIDS. For more information, or to donate online, visit Children's Hospital Giving site.
