The past few weeks have brought a veritable whirlwind of events at which we have been educating and exciting the public with our pictures, descriptions, and videos of our evolving new Golisano Children’s Hospital. Right now, we are on schedule to open our doors in 2015. At first blush, it seems like eons away from now. But it will be here before we know it. We are about $20-million shy of our fundraising goal and we have just over 20 months left! Sounds like another whirlwind several months are ahead.
We are so very grateful to those of you who have already been so generous to our hospital and community – to Tom Golisano who got the proverbial ball rolling; to our campaign leaders and faculty and staff who not only give of their time and energy, but also of their personal funds; to the University of Rochester Medical Center that has taken on over $80-million of the $145-million cost of the project. But we truly have miles to go before we sleep (and before we walk over the threshold!). We know just how committed this wonderful community is to its children and families. The time is now. We are counting on you to keep the cranes and the backhoes and the pile drivers moving!
Our healthy former patients, our grateful families, our community partners – they tell the story of the successes generous people like you have brought. You will see many of them on the pages that follow. And those whom we have helped through more difficult times, those whose pain has yet to be conquered – you will see them, too. They remind us we cannot rest until every last child and family has a chance for a healthy, productive life.
Thanking you all in advance,
Nina F. Schor, MD, PhD
