Tops Friendly Markets Continues to Inspire with New Building Commitment

Through its various in-store promotions, volunteering, hosting and sponsoring of events, and dedication to the health and wellness of our region's children, Tops Friendly Markets has provided consistent support to patients and families at Golisano Children's Hospital. In addition to all Tops does throughout the year, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) partner recently committed to naming the interior of the Healthy Eating Kitchen and the Play Pod in the future children's hospital building.

Since Tops became a CMNH partner in 2005 it has raised nearly $600,000 for Golisano Children's Hospital. Tops' customers and its associates play a large role in the success of the different fundraising ventures. Whether they're purchasing CMNH balloons or donating $1 to be entered to win free groceries and gas for a year, customers are always eager to support the children's hospital. Tops employees are no different. The enthusiasm that comes from the Tops team when volunteering to man the phones at Telethon and Radiothon and sponsoring events like the Golisano Children's Hospital Gala and their own Monte Carlo Night was just one of the reasons Tops was recognized as a Miracle Maker for Outstanding Commitment by a CMNH Sponsor in 2009.

"The health and wellness of children is an important aspect of our mission at Tops Friendly Markets and Golisano Children's Hospital is one of our most important partners," said Frank Curci, Tops Friendly Markets CEO. "The real heroes are those working in the hospital and we are just happy to be involved and give back to our community."

Tops' dedication to educating the community about healthy living matches its recent commitment to naming the inside of the Healthy Eating Kitchen, which will be in the adolescent area of the future children's hospital. The Tops team will play a large role in deciding the kitchen's interior design, making it a place that will encourage healthy eating habits and coming together during meal times.

A two-story play pod, built into the Playdeck of the new building, will also be named in honor of the friendly grocery market chain. Full of engaging features, including an interactive projected floor game, the hidden space will encourage kids' imagination and discovery.

"We are excited to be a part of something that allows kids to have fun and helps ease the pain and often stressful situation of being in a hospital," Frank said. "With 19 stores in the Rochester area, many of our employees and customers have connections to Golisano Children's Hospital. If we can influence their experience in a positive way, we are grateful to be able to do so."
