New entrance, new headwalls, and more for new hospital

new entranceUntil recently, it may have looked like the exterior construction of the new Golisano Children's Hospital was complete, but the creation of the building's entrance illustrates that the site is still very much a construction zone.

The new entrance's loop will allow for a flow of patients and visitors when the hospital opens in late summer of 2015.

Meanwhile, on the inside of the hospital, the headwalls of the private patient rooms on the seventh floor are completely enclosed. The footwalls of the rooms are also taking shape with a counter, sink, and lockable areas for personal storage. They are really starting to look more and more like their renderings!

Take an inside look at some of the most recent changes and the great view from the Playdeck with these pictures!

"Get Down On It" at the 27th annual Gala

"Get Down On It" at the 27th annual Gala

galaThe Rochester Riverside Convention Center will be transformed into a tropical getaway for the 27th annual Golisano Children’s Hospital Gala on Oct. 18. Hundreds of advocates for sick and injured children will gather for the jungle-themed black-tie fundraising affair, dedicated to advancing the future of pediatric care. Last year’s event raised $625,000 for the region’s only children’s hospital.

The Gala is the children’s hospital’s premier fundraising event. The evening, featuring live performances from international recording artists Kool & the Gang, will kick off the “celebration” and silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a shortened live auction at 8 p.m.

Learn about this year's honorary chairs, our presenting sponsor, and more, on the new Gala web site, where, for the first time, you can purchase tickets and sponsorships directly.

Thank you for supporting the children's hospital as we enter our final phase of construction on the new building!

Construction Corner: A look inside

Take a look inside the future Golisano Children's Hospital with these interior photos (and a few good external shots)! Featured in our upcoming Strong Kids newsletter, these pictures take you down the corridor of the third floor, otherwise known as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and up to the seventh floor to the general patient rooms and our expansive Playdeck.

The exterior renderings have really come to life over the last six months and now the interior of the hospital is starting to do the same. Features of the main lobby are becoming easier to pick out, drywall is being laid, bathroom tile is being placed, and foot and head walls are going in.

Explore the building and learn more about naming opportunities and how you can make a difference for the future of sick and injured children, and their families, at the Finger Lakes region's only children's hospital.

Future children's hospital reached a new construction milestone

main loby constructionAs we move into a season of growth and renewal, the construction of UR Medicine’s future Golisano Children’s Hospital, scheduled to open its doors in 2015, continues to progress in many ways. While the finishing touches are being put on the building’s exterior, the installation of the interior details is really just beginning – and we can’t wait to see how they look!

In addition to the exterior framing being close to complete, the interior framing is also almost finished. One of the most exciting steps in the building’s recent progress is the start of the bridge connection, which will allow families, faculty, and staff to commute from the children’s hospital into Strong Memorial Hospital, and vice versa. The bridge is expected to be completed in late summer or early fall.

The new hospital will  provide our region’s families with the best environment for healing, with places for gathering, respite, resting, and playing. Some of the fun features will be the different play areas, including a secret play pod, named by generous children’s hospital supporters Wayne and Beverly LeChase,  in one of the walls of the main lobby. Other play spaces include a special area for teens, multiple interactive games, a play deck and more.
