Walmart and Sam’s Club’s Six-Week Campaign Makes a Long-Term Difference
With a generous $1.5 million commitment to naming our new Pediatric Lobby, Walmart and Sam’s Club continued their expansive fundraising efforts for Golisano Children’s Hospital this spring. For six weeks, area stores competed with one another to see who could raise the most money for our region’s children and families. Store managers and employees continue to come up with creative ways to meet their goals. Last year’s campaign raised $254,863 for the children’s hospital.
Some of this year’s campaign fundraisers included a Mother’s Day carnation sale, penny wars, hot dog and bake sales, a silent auction, and an ice cream social. As part of the friendly competition, associates at the Geneva location put money in each manager’s jar and, in the end, made the manager with the most money kiss a pony – with red lipstick. Victor associates were encouraged to donate a dollar to the children’s hospital and partake in a “surprise egg grab.” Associates took their chances at picking a plastic egg that was either filled with candy or a $15 gift card to an area restaurant. The Brockport Walmart did a “Pie-in-the-Face” fundraiser with its store managers, raising money with every pie thrown.
“Walmart and Sam’s Club continue to raise the bar, year after year,” said Betsy Findlay, director of Golisano Children’s Hospital special events and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “It is because of their drive and commitment to our patients and families that we’re able to have spaces like the lobby of our new hospital.”
Tops Friendly Markets Hits the Green for Kids
As the Rochester community celebrated the dedication of the new Golisano Children’s Hospital, more than 280 Tops Friendly Market associates were hitting Victor Hills Golf Club for the 14th annual Tops Friendly Markets Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament was the first time proceeds benefited the children’s hospital. Sponsorships and overall participation raised $45,000 in support of our patients and families.
Long-term supporters of Golisano Children’s Hospital, Tops associates have volunteered countless hours manning the phone booths for our Drive for Miracles Radiothon and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ Telethon, both of which are sponsored by the grocery chain. Tops’ $250,000 commitment to the new building supported a play silo on the two-story Play Deck, as well as the interior of the eighth floor’s Healthy Eating Kitchen.
“Tops has been a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital partner of ours for years and its associates’ dedication to the children’s hospital has never wavered,” said Findlay. “We are extremely grateful to the management and employees of Tops for their partnership and commitment.”
Special thanks to all of the tournament’s sponsors, including Beak & Skiff, which matched all of the money raised in the silent auction, Coke, Pepsi, Lake Beverage, Wright Beverage, Keebler, and Nabisco.
