Golisano Children’s Hospital’s Family Resource Library: A Hidden Gem

As the one year anniversary of the opening of Golisano Children’s Hospital approaches, many hospital visitors and employees remain unaware of some of the treasures that lie within. One such hidden gem is the Family Resource Library.
RaynorProfessional librarian Jennifer Raynor was brought on-board in January, 2016, and specializes in finding reliable and helpful health information to meet specific needs. From clinicians and staff to patients and families, you’ll find a plethora of information in the Family Resource Library.
“I am thrilled to be in the Family Resource Library,” said Jennifer. “The dual role of connecting patients and families with age appropriate, reliable health information plus fun, recreational reading, and supporting the information research needs of clinicians and staff is both challenging and rewarding.”
For clinicians and staff: Jennifer will consult with you on database searches, conduct custom literature searches, provide subject-specific resource training and instruction, notify you about new library services, and work with you to create appropriate educational materials for your patients and families.
For pediatric patients and their families: Jennifer knows just the right age-appropriate resources to help you better understand your health conditions or diagnoses. The Library also offers a quiet space to relax as well as loads of great recreational reading for children and teens. Visitors can browse through the daily newspaper or collection of magazines for children and adults.  Public access computers, a printer/scanner/fax machine, and iPads are also available.
FRLThe Family Resource Library is located on the lobby level of the new Golisano Children’s Hospital. Clinicians, staff, patients, families, along with the general community are allowed to use the facility. It is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. inpatient children and families can catch story time with Jennifer in the First Floor Lobby. Children of all ages with a caregiver are welcome. Join Jennifer for stories, songs, and rhymes and check out the Family Resource Library too!
