The Community Health Improvement Award recognizes University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) faculty and staff for significant contributions to the health of the community through research, teaching, practice, and/or outreach programs. The awards reflect the shared mission of the Center for Community Health and the URMC to develop and expand university-community partnerships that support participatory research and interventions to reduce health inequalities and/or improve the community's health. Awards are made based on work done in the greater Rochester area and Finger Lakes Region.

Nicole Redmond, MD, PhD, MPH

Dr. Redmond is the Medical Officer of National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her research interests include racial/ethnic and geographic disparities in psychological, socioeconomic, behavioral, and clinical cardiovascular disease risk factors. She received an NHLBI minority investigator supplement to study the association of psychological and socioeconomic measures with cardiovascular disease outcomes in the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARDS) study. She also has an interest in the impact of the criminal justice system on health disparities. Dr. Redmond served as the chairperson for the Healthcare and Rehabilitation working group of the Northern District of Alabama Reentry Council.
