The Community Health Improvement Award recognizes University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) faculty and staff for significant contributions to the health of the community through research, teaching, practice, and/or outreach programs. The awards reflect the shared mission of the Center for Community Health and the URMC to develop and expand university-community partnerships that support participatory research and interventions to reduce health inequalities and/or improve the community's health. Awards are made based on work done in the greater Rochester area and Finger Lakes Region.

The Call for Nominations for the 8th Annual Dr. David Satcher Community Improvement Awards will be announced in the first quarter of 2017.

The awards were presented April 29 by Nancy M. Bennett, M.D., M.S., Center for Community Health Director and Professor of Medicine in Public Health Sciences, and University President and CEO Joel Seligman.

Lisa Angeline Cooper, M.D., M.P.H., Director of the Center to Eliminate Cardiovascular Health Disparities at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, delivered the annual Grand Rounds address. Her talk, “From Health Disparities to Health Equity: Building Relationships in Healthcare Systems and Communities,” preceded the awards ceremony.
