NIH Director's Early Independence Awards

Request Research Help

NIH/NIDCR invites applications for the NIH Director’s Early Independence Award Program. The award supports exceptional investigators who wish to pursue independent research directly after completion of their terminal doctoral/research degree or clinical residency, thereby foregoing the traditional post-doctoral training period. This FOA will utilize the NIH DP5 Early Independence Award/Cooperative Agreement award mechanism.

This is a limited submission program; the University may submit up to two (2) grant applications under this announcement.

Interested faculty at the River Campus must submit an abstract, CV, and budget by September 7 to the Dean’s office via Debra Haring or Cindy Gary.

Interested faculty at Medical Center must submit an abstract, CV, and budget to Dean Puzas by September 7. Please use the words “Early Independence” in the subject line.

Deans will forward their ranked nominations to Mary Ann Davis in the Provost’s office by September 21. The Provost will announce the nominations that will go forward to NIH by September 28.

The complete program solicitation can be found here. The optional Letter of Intent is due December 30. The full proposal is due January 30, 2013. It is important to remember that ORPA must receive electronic proposals five (5) business days prior to the sponsor’s deadline along with a completed and signed University sign-off form.
