Planning Grants for the NIH National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) (P20)

The NIH is inviting organizations to submit planning grant applications for the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN). Applicants must have experience mentoring individuals with backgrounds underrepresented in the biomedical research workforce.

The NRMN will establish a nationwide consortium to provide networking and mentorship experiences for underrepresented individuals through the undergraduate to the junior faculty level. Planning grant applications must propose a plan to develop the partnerships and infrastructure needed to be competitive for the NRMN initiative.

This is a limited submission opportunity; the University may submit only one (1) grant application.

Interested faculty at the Medical Center must submit an abstract, CV, and budget to Dean Puzas via Catherine Muzytchuk (, using the words “Research Mentoring Network” in the subject line.

Faculty at the River Campus interested in submitting a proposal must submit an abstract, CV, and budget to the Deans via Debra Haring ( or Cindy Gary (

The deadline for submissions to the Deans is March 18, 2013. The Deans will forward their ranked submissions to Associate Provost Jason Adsit by March 28, 2013. The Senior Vice President for Research will decide which submission will move forward to the NIH by April 1, 2013.

The optional Letter of Intent is due April 10, 2013. The full proposal is due May 10, 2013. It is important to remember that ORPA must receive electronic proposals five (5) business days prior to the sponsor’s deadline, along with a completed and signed University sign-off form.
