Full Time OMFS Faculty

Dr. VorassiDr. John Vorrasi, Chair

Dr. Vorrasi earned his Dental degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine. He completed his certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 2013, focusing on orthognathic surgery and corrective jaw surgery for facial deformities and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery. 

He is a native Rochesterian, growing up in Brighton. His undergrad education was completed at Tufts University where he was Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering and dental school at SUNY Buffalo in 2008 where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. Vorrasi was on staff at Christiana Care Health System, in Delaware, as Program Director for the OMS residency program and associate director of research and simulation training. His interests include orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery and reconstruction, dental implants, dentoalveolar surgery, facial reconstruction, and trauma.

He has numerous publications including Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, OMS Knowledge Update- Orthognathic Surgery, and 2015 edition of Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has contributed to the scientific literature by co-authoring book chapters and publishing manuscripts in peer reviewed journals. In addition, he has lectured extensively at scientific organizations and study clubs. He is co-recipient of Geistlich Osteoscience Research grant for tissue engineering in collaboration with the University of Delaware and was 2014 recipient of Christiana Care’s “Rising Star” faculty award.

He has traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras with the “New Faces for Honduras” mission trip performing full scope maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Vorrasi is a diplomate of the American Board of OMS, fellow of the American Association of OMS, member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) dental honor society, and recently inducted into the American Society of TMJ Surgeons. He serves on the board for the New York State Society of OMS, and he is a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

Portrait Dr Dina AminDr. Dina Amin, Program Director

Dr. Dina Amin is Associate Professor and Residency Program Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, part of the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Amin earned her Dental Degree at King Abdul-Aziz University, which is the only internationally accredited dental school by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA). She obtained her residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Saudi Arabia. Dr. Amin completed her fellowship in Craniomaxillofacial Surgery with a concentration in Orthognathic Surgery and Obstructive Sleep Apnea at University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham Alabama. To complete her surgical training, she completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham Alabama.

In 2016, Dr. Amin joined Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta Georgia as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. At Emory University, she served as the Associate Chief of Service, the Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinic, and the Co-Director of the Craniomaxillofacial Surgery Center of Excellence at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta Georgia. Dr. Amin is credited for introducing head and neck oncology, microvascular reconstructive surgery, and computer-assisted navigation for complex Craniomaxillofacial Trauma to Emory University. She worked briefly at Texas A&M University and Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas before joining the University of Rochester.

Her primary research evolved from her interests in Craniomaxillofacial Trauma, Head and Neck Pathology, and Reconstruction. Dr. Amin has received intramural and international grants and was the Principal Investigator of an orbital trauma clinical trial. She is the author of more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and 13 book chapters. Dr. Amin is the editor of Pitfalls and Pearls in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery which is expected to be published in the Fall of 2024. Dr. Amin is passionate about research, residency education and providing excellent patient care. Currently, she is the co-chair of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS) anywhere 3.8 lecture series, and an active member of ACOMS, International Association for Dental Research, and AO CMF North America- education committee. She spends most of her time with her family and friends. In her free time, Dr. Amin enjoys oil painting, meditation, and outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and traveling.

AndersonDavid Anderson, DDS, MD

Dr. Anderson is a licensed, board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Rochester, NY. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He completed his six year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where he also received his Doctor of Medicine degree.
He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Monroe County Seventh District Dental Society. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Anderson also belongs to the American Medical Association.

Dr. Anderson is on staff at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital, where he is also an instructor in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program there.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery encompasses the art and science of diagnosis and treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects involving both functional and aesthetic aspects of the mouth, jaw, and face. Dr. Anderson regularly participates in continuing education seminars to provide the best and most current care to his patients. Dr. Anderson offers a wide range of oral surgery services with a special interest in dental implant placement and helping patients regain the look, feel and function of their own teeth when they have been lost or do not develop naturally.

CaplashJolly Caplash, DMD

Dr. Caplash is a Diplomate, American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery; Faculty Staff University of Rochester, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery; Division Head Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Rochester Regional Health, and Chair of Dentistry, Rochester Regional Health. He is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

His special interests include: Dental-Alveolar Surgery. IV Sedation Anesthesia, Third Molar (Wisdom Teeth) Surgery, Implants, Bone Graft/ Reconstruction Surgery, Maxillofacial Trauma, Oral Lesions/ Pathology, and Orthognathic Surgery Oral & Maxillofacial Infections.

EdwardsRichard Edwards, DDS

Dr. Edwards practices full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from corrective jaw surgery to wisdom tooth removal.
Diagnoses and treats facial pain, facial injuries and TMJ disorders, and performs a full range of dental implant and bone grafting procedures.

JosephJoseph Fantuzzo, DDS, MD

Dr. Fantuzzo is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Dr. Fantuzzo grew up in Webster, NY and completed undergraduate studies at the University of Rochester. He was educated in both Dentistry (DDS) and Medicine (MD) and went on to complete a formal accredited six-year hospital-based residency training program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University at Buffalo, in Buffalo, New York.

This included a Preliminary General Surgery Internship as well as training in adult and pediatric general anesthesia. He subsequently served as Pediatric Cranio-Maxillofacial Fellow at the Posnick Center for Facial Plastic Surgery, Chevy Chase, Maryland and Georgetown University Hospital, in Washington, DC. He is basic (BLS), advanced cardiac (ACLS), pediatric advanced (PALS), and advanced trauma life support (ATLS) trained.
Before entering private practice, Dr. Fantuzzo served as Associate Professor, Chairman and Director of the Residency Training Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Fantuzzo taught at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Eastman Institute for Oral Health, in Physical Diagnosis, Orthognathic Surgery, Basic and Advanced Dental Implant Surgery, Intraoral and Extraoral Bone Grafting, Facial Trauma Management, Anesthesia and Pain Control as well as Management of Office-based Medical and Anesthesia Related Emergencies, Pediatric Maxillofacial Infections, Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Craniofacial Dysplasia, Cleft Lip & Palate, and Facial Aesthetic Surgery.

Dr. Fantuzzo is an attending surgeon with active staff privileges at Strong Memorial Hospital – University of Rochester Medical Center and Rochester General Hospital, in Rochester, New York.

Specific interests include: Dentoalveolar Surgery (Management of impacted teeth including removal of wisdom teeth); Dental Implant and Preprosthetic Surgery (including bone and soft tissue grafting); Orthognathic (corrective, jaw-straightening) Surgery; Facial Trauma Reconstruction; Oral Pathology; and Office — Based Anesthesia.

SchellatiNicholas Schellati, DDS, MD

Dr. Schellati is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

He completed extensive training in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. This includes dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants and bone grafting, oral pathology and facial reconstructive surgery, corrective jaw surgery and facial cosmetic surgery.

He started his career receiving his Bachelor of Biological Sciences (BS) degree from Fordham University in New York City.
He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with honors from the University of Buffalo. After dental school, he trained at a fully accredited 6 year dual degreed oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Buffalo. Dr Schellati is a physician, receiving his medical degree (MD) from this same institution. He has completed an internship in general surgery, where he treated patients with full scope general surgical needs, including acute trauma patients at a level one trauma facility.

Dr. Schellati is extensively trained in anesthesia techniques and certified by the state of NY to provide anesthesia and intravenous sedation to his patient population while performing oral and maxillofacial procedures. He holds a faculty appointment at the University of Rochester and is involved in oral and maxillofacial surgery resident training. He also currently holds staff privileges at Strong Memorial Hospital and Rochester General Hospital.
