Eastman Institute for Oral Health has established a new Dental Career Fellowship to provide advanced education to dentists interested in increasing their knowledge in the various disciplines of dentistry. Concentrated one-year Fellowship program tracks are available in General Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Periodontics and Dental Implantology , Oral Medicine, Urgent Care, Geriatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Community Dentistry and Translational Research in General Dentistry.

Eastman Dental Now Screening for HIV at Three Clinics

UR Medicine’s Eastman Institute for Oral Health has received a grant from New York State to use a rapid screening test for HIV in three of its clinics, based on the success of its smaller pilot program in 2013.

Throughout New York, which has the highest rate of HIV than any other state in the U.S., a third of HIV positive people learn their status only after reaching advanced stages of infection. While state law requires health professionals to offer voluntary HIV tests to patients age 13 to 64, a significant portion of the population do not visit a primary care physician or dentist and rely on a hospital emergency room for health care when an issue arises.

Dr. Bejan Iranpour Remembered

“There are hundreds of dentists in Rochester and throughout the world who owe their success in large part to Dr. Bejan Iranpour,” said Michael Yunker, D.D.S., assistant professor and assistant program director in EIOH's Advanced Education in General Dentistry program. “Dr. Iranpour was the epitome of what every dedicated and conscientious dentist aspired to be. In addition to being a fine oral surgeon, he was a true gentleman, dedicated to his family and his profession, and totally aware of the importance of education in professional development.”

To honor his exceptional work and countless contributions as an oral health educator, Dr. Bejan Iranpour, who passed away Feb. 15, was given the first Bejan Iranpour Award for Excellence in Clinical Education in 2000.
