Dr. Ghanem Named Program Director

Dr. Alexis Ghanem (GenDen ’13, GPR ‘14) has been named Program Director for the one-year AEGD Residency Program, effective February 1.

Since his arrival, Dr. Ghanem has stood out as a leader and mentor, serving as Ombudsman Class Representative, and demonstrating clinical excellence, patience, humility and loyalty.

As a resident, these traits earned him the Handelman Award of Excellence, the first Handelman Fellowship Award, and the NYS Dean’s Outstanding Student Award. Before he joined Eastman as an AEGD resident in 2011, Dr. Ghanem received his training in dentistry and oral surgery from the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. There, he served in a number of increasingly responsible roles, including head director of the Department of Oral Surgery and coordinator of the Dental Implants Course.

He joined Eastman faculty in 2014 as an Assistant Professor in General Dentistry and was promoted to Clinical Director in 2016, as well as to Associate Professor in 2017. He has excelled as a faculty member in General Dentistry in many areas, especially in clinical teaching.
