Research Overview While some fellows have academic aspirations, others aim to develop careers solely as clinical geropsychiatrists. Both career paths require an ability to critically review the literature and independently pursue specific topics in greater detail, based on an individual assessment of each fellow’s training objectives and interests. All clinical work is informed by an evidence based medicine approach. As well, time is devoted throughout the year to pursue a more in-depth scholarly exercise under the guidance of a program faculty mentor. For those fellows wishing to pursue empirical research, the Geriatric Psychiatry Program has a number of faculty engaged in research, supported by grants from NIH, industry, and foundations. Areas of expertise include: depression; dementias; suicide prevention; community-based interventions; personality and other psychosocial factors and aging. Full-time postdoctoral research fellows are supported by two Departmental T32 NRSA grants. Please see specific faculty members' pages for more information, or contact Dr. Santos directly with queries.
