Overview

Dr. Odom teaching
  • The URMC PM&R Musculoskeletal Medicine Fellowship Program is a 12-month outpatient clinical experience designed to provide an in-depth exposure to the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal conditions.
  • The program is primarily focused on non-spine disorders, but there are opportunities to rotate with spine faculty as well.
  • Extensive training in interventional and diagnostic ultrasound is included.

Objectives

  • Expand differential diagnosis for each musculoskeletal body region
  • Improve orthopaedic physical exam skills
  • Develop an efficient diagnostic and treatment plan, including appropriate imaging and selection of targeted injections
  • Develop technical proficiency in performing ultrasound guided interventions under the direct supervision of attending
  • Develop proficiency in the interpretation of radiography, MRI, and MSK ultrasound
  • Develop proficiency in appropriate physical therapy prescription and communication with physical therapists
  • Understand indications for surgical referral
  • Learn to effectively manage a high-volume MSK clinic both independently and with attending supervision
  • Learn to promptly and efficiently manage patient inquiries
  • Participate in resident education

  • PM&R MSK clinic (typically the first month)
  • Adult reconstruction (hip and knee arthroplasty)
  • Orthopaedic foot and ankle
  • Orthopaedic hand and upper extremity
  • Orthopaedic sports surgery
  • Primary care sports medicine
  • Orthopaedic and PM&R spine
  • Rheumatology
  • Electives/selectives at the discretion of the fellowship director

Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at Clinton Crossings

The University of Rochester Medical Center's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program is sponsored by Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH)—a 886-bed, Level I trauma center that serves as URMC's main teaching hospital. The hospital is a tertiary and quaternary care referral center for upstate New York, as well as a bone marrow, cardiac, liver, and renal transplant center. It is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCH) and has been named one of America's best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.
